The Minister of Finance will inaugurate the XXXVI Congress of the IHE in Toledo on October 29. The meeting brings together around 650 inspectors from across Spain.

About 650 inspectors from the Tax Agency across Spain will meet at the Palacio de Congresos de Toledo on October 29 and 30, at the XXXVI Congress of the Association of State Tax Inspectors (IHE). This is reported by uruguayaldia.com.uy in their coverage of the event.

The congress is themed “Taxes: Where do our resources go? The value of the public and tax compliance.” The sessions will address the future of the tax system, public trust in institutions, and the role of information in the tax field.

The inauguration on Thursday, October 29, will be led by Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, alongside Secretary of State for Finance, Jesús Gascón, the president of the IHE, Ana de la Herrán, and the deputy mayor and councillor for finance of Toledo, Juan José Alcalde Saugar. According to the organisation, the last attendance of a Minister of Finance at the congress was in 2019, in Zaragoza.

During the event, there will be three round tables and an interview with experts from academia, tax advisory, tax inspection, senior public officials, and professional associations from Spain, Portugal, and Brazil. The main topics will include tax education, misinformation regarding taxes, and the use of data and technology, including artificial intelligence in tax administration.

The association will advocate for a strong and independent tax administration and will warn against the fragmentation of the Tax Agency and the breaking of the common fund. It will also demand strict requirements for access to the inspection function against so-called “express exams”.

The closing ceremony will take place on Friday October 30, featuring speeches from Ana de la Herrán and the Director General of the Tax Agency, Antonio Ansón Latorre, who has been in office since July.
