Movistar Prosegur Alarmas exceeds 650,000 connections in Spain after increasing its customer base by 30% in two years. The company rules out international expansion and launches a smart lock.

Movistar Prosegur Alarmas (MPA) has surpassed 650,000 connections in Spain after increasing its customer base by 30% over the last two years, as explained by the company at an informational meeting held this Wednesday at its headquarters in Madrid, as reported by escudodigital.com. The alliance between Telefónica and Prosegur, created in March 2020, has more than tripled its subscriber volume since its inception and ranks tenth in the international security company ranking by number of customers.

This global list is led by the American company ADT, with 6.1 million connections; the Japanese SECOM, with 3.8 million; the American Vivint, with 2.4 million, and Verisure, with 2.2 million contracts in the Spanish market, according to data handled by MPA.

The Spanish alarm market has added one million connections in the last five years, reaching 3.62 million installations. The penetration rate stands at 12% of properties (11.9%), below mature markets like the United States (18.8%) or Norway (18%).

The Security Radar prepared by the firm and published in July indicates that of the 19.8 million households in Spain, 6.3 million homes (3% of the total) do not have a connected alarm, forming a potential market that opens a 60% margin to increase penetration and the option to double the size of the sector.

The report also details that the search for peace of mind in the property is the main reason for hiring an alarm in 56.2% of cases, ahead of fear of theft (15.2%) and occupation (11.9%). The most valued feature is the 24-hour police alert (77.8%), followed by guarantees against occupation and theft (56.8%), rapid response in less than 20 seconds (50.1%), and early detection (47.2%).

53% of customers come through recommendations from family and friends. By region, the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands record the highest increases in demand due to the weight of second homes, while in Extremadura, the search for peace of mind prevails (83%).

“We are a unique case where a telecom company allies with a national security firm. We have become the tenth largest company globally, with over 3,000 employees, while always maintaining the agility, flexibility, and mindset of a startup.”

This was stated by the CEO of the firm, Diego Torrico, who ruled out international expansion and inorganic acquisitions: the operational focus is solely on the national market. “As of today, we are a Spanish team. Our goal is Spain; there are no plans to expand to other countries,” he emphasized. “We fully trust in direct communication with customers and organic growth,” he added.

MPA has a network of 6,500 points of sale and 14,000 salespeople, and has signed alliances with Banco Santander (four years ago), insurers like Occident and Allianz, and companies like Correos in logistics, Fenie in energy, and Carrefour in retail.

The CEO has confirmed that the company has achieved financial self-sufficiency by generating positive cash flow during this fiscal year, in a sector where the average ticket in Spain is around 40 euros per month.

The company has also presented its new smart lock, which combines a high-security cylinder with digital management from a mobile application. It allows remote opening and closing, checking entry and exit logs, issuing temporary virtual keys for guests or service personnel, and programming automatic closures if the door is left open. The device detects attempts at manipulation or forced entry from the outside and sends a priority signal to the Alarm Receiving Centre (CRA) to activate guards or alert the State Security Forces.

“This innovation was included in the company’s roadmap. It allows us to add an additional layer of security at the access door to the home, reinforcing physical security.”

It was Fernando Saldaña, the commercial and marketing director of MPA, who framed the launch within the progressive technical deployment of the entity.
