Banco Santander raises its ordinary profit to €11.176 billion in the first nine months of 2026, a 16% increase, with 17 million new customers in the last year.
Banco Santander has reported an ordinary profit of €11.176 billion between January and September 2026, a 16% increase compared to the same period last year, according to empresaexterior.com. The figure, which the bank describes as a record, is supported by the acquisition of 17 million new customers in the last twelve months.
The group's total revenue reached €46.807 billion, an 8% increase, driven by interest margins and fees. Costs fell by 1% excluding mergers and acquisitions, and the efficiency ratio improved to 42.6%.
Inorganic growth plays a significant role in these figures. The integration of TSB and the acquisition of Webster, completed on August 20, increased both lending and customer resources by 16% in constant euros. Without this effect, organic growth was 6% in lending and 8% in resources. Webster contributes 4.2 million customers in the United States.
The chairwoman of Banco Santander, Ana Botín, assessed the results in these terms:
“We have once again achieved very solid results in the first nine months, with a 25% increase in earnings per share and an increasingly positive dynamic across the group.”
Botín added that artificial intelligence has generated €194 million in business value during 2026. According to her words:
“The combination of our global businesses with scale and our diversification between Europe and America is a differential advantage.”
The profit attributable to the group reached €12.405 billion, a 20% increase. This figure includes a net capital gain of €1.895 billion from the sale of Santander Bank Polska in January, partially offset by charges of €666 million, mainly related to the integration costs of TSB and Webster.
In terms of profitability, the ordinary RoTE stood at 16.0%, 1.1 points higher, and the fully loaded CET1 capital ratio at 12.7%. The remuneration to shareholders based on the first half results amounts to €3.660 billion. The interim dividend is €0.127 per share and will be paid on November 2.
