Iberdrola has placed $1.6 billion in green bonds in the US market, with demand exceeding $5 billion.

According to Atalayar, Iberdrola has issued $1.6 billion in green bonds in the corporate debt market of the United States. This is the group's first direct corporate operation in that country since 2009.

Demand exceeded $5 billion, more than three times the initial offer. The issuance attracted 116 institutional investors, mostly from the US, including the country's major financial entities. According to the information, the margins were competitive and comparable to those of a similar operation in the Euro market.

The issuance is divided into two tranches of $800 million each. The first matures on November 4, 2029 and pays a fixed annual coupon of 5.40%. The second matures on November 4, 2033, with a fixed annual coupon of 5.85%.

The funds will be used to finance or refinance assets related to electric distribution and transmission networks and new renewable generation facilities in the United States. Iberdrola expects to maintain an investment close to $5 billion annually in North America over the coming years.
